How to Avoid Injuries While Moving.

Moving involves a lot of lifting, loading and unloading items. If you don’t follow safe methods and take proper precautions you can risk seriously injuring yourself during the move.

Follow these safety moving tips to help you prevent injuries on moving day:

  • Do stretching exercises before and after moving.
  • Bend at the knees and keep your back straight. Lift with your legs, not with your back!
  • Ask for help to lift and carry items that are large, heavy or awkward.
  • Make sure you have a path free of any tripping or slipping hazards.
  • Avoid lifting things over your head. Don’t carry items on your head or shoulders.
  • Take your time. Lift and walk slowly.
  • Don’t carry more than one moving box or piece of furniture at a time.
  • Avoid twisting your body.
  • Take plenty of breaks.  If you are feeling tired or hot, drink water and relax for a little while. It’s important to stay hydrated throughout your move.
  • Have the right tools available to assist with your move, such as a dolly or moving straps.

It’s a good idea to always have a first aid kit available, too. Before you know it, you’ll be at your new place, safe and injury-free!
